Scratch beneath the small-town surface of Helsinki and you will find a cosmopolitan metropolis buzzing with a lively attitude and plenty of excitement. The relatively short-lived summer offers the best chance to appreciate the outdoors and sit on one of the popular café terraces, or even hit the Hietaniemi Beach, all of which can be enjoyed during the 20 hours of daylight.
Strolling around the streets of Helsinki will reveal an Empire-style of architecture, comparable to St. Petersburg. The greatest example of this is the green-domed Lutheran Cathedral which rises proudly out of the centre of Senate Square.
From here the main shopping street of Aleksanterinkatu, affectionately known as Aleksi, runs towards Mannerheimintie and contains the largest department store in Scandinavia, called Stockmann. The up-market boulevard of Esplanadi runs alongside and is packed with exclusive boutiques.
Lovers of Nordic design will be thrilled by the Design Museum and the Ateneum Art Museum. Nature is in abundance on the beautiful archipelago which lies along the coast. A must-see is the Baltic fortress of Suomenlinna, where you just might forget you’re in a big city.
Whether you head to a sauna or amusement park when you disembark from Helsinki-Vantaa International Airport, with over 65 hotels, apartments and hostels, Booking.com has the perfect place for your Scandinavian stay.
Loved everything about the city and vicinity. Make sure to visit: (1) Market square; (2) Take a tour with a city planner ("Ataman" tours"); (3) If you grew up reading books about Moomin family of trolls - there is a great "Moomin" shop close to the Market Square; (4) take a boat to Island of Suomenlinna (note: if you have tram tickets for "AB" area, they'd work for the boat) and while there, make sure to visit their delightful Toy Museum and their little cafe; (5) Löyly sauna is the must and you do not have to wear speedos: all the guys were in normal swim trunks (you can rent them right there as well); (5) Visit Uutela forest (~ 40 minute ride on a train).
Just walk around and talk to the locals: everyone speaks perfect English and we found that it is not true that Finns hate small talk: everyone was warm and friendly and talked to us plenty.

Helsinki is a very safe and walkable city and although it was cold, getting around was no problem. The people are very friendly and a credit to their city. Lots to see and do. Trams everywhere if you need them. Big wide streets and shopping centres that are really bright and clean. Overall I would highly recommend a visit, three days at least.

Interesting city , nice to visit in the summer with lots of sightseeing. Especially for those who like walks by the sea or taking a trip with a boat. There are issues with renovation which happen all over the city during the summer but hopefully you can avoid them. Public transport is great, people know english very well, eating is quite expensive by average European standards but with the right schedule maybe you can manage. Make sure to visit Tallin and Porvoo as well

Perfect destination to get acquainted with the famous Finnιsh culture, style and design. A walkable downtown and a very convenient way to move by the extremely accurate and clean public means of transport. Happy people loving outdoor activities, socializing throughout the long summer evenings at pubs and cafes, Perfect English spoken anywhere. Unforgettable coffee experience for coffee lovers in numerous famous brand shops. We loved especially "Johan & Nyström" in Kanavaranta district. Very good Finnish beers at Public Corners and Molly Malone's.

I was so lucky with the weather.
I was so lucky with the weather. The city center is small so you can walk around. Especially, I liked the Helsinki Catedral and the Orthodox church.
Don't forget to visit SUOMENLINNA island.
I also had delicious coffee and Cafe Enchante. You can stop by there and have their specialty coffee.

I loved Helsinki. As a lone tourist, I found it very safe.
I loved Helsinki. As a lone tourist, I found it very safe. Getting round was so easy with the public transport. I found it easier to get Finnish food at the markets, there was a range of restaurants, but many were foreign. Suomenlinna was so worth the visit. I got a 24 hour ABC ticket from the Airport and this covered my travel to the city by train, ferry to Suomenlinna the next day and various journeys on trams and metro for 24 hours. Brilliant value. Also pensioner rates are good.
Excellent location, easy access to shops and restaurants in the city center, you can walk everywhere from this hotel. I like Rivoli Jardin and have stayed there before. I had to leave early in the morning to the airport and they kindly offered to make me a sandwich to take-away as it was too early for a sit down breakfast and I really appreciated that gesture. There is a homely feeling, which I like plus guests can leave or take books from the small book shelf close to the reception area, which is a very nice touch.
The hotel is charming - a tastefully converted prison! The room we had was perfect - everything worked! The hotel is perfectly situated for the Viking Line terminal and is right on the number 4 tram route which makes getting into the city centre very easy (although this is a very pleasant 15 minute walk if you don't want to use the tram). The breakfast offering is superb and the dinner menu is excellent with freshly cooked and well presented dishes. The staff are very welcoming and exceptionally helpful.
The <<Hotel Mestari>> is very well located: Really close to the City Center of Helsinki, next to several tram and bus stations as well as a shopping mall, different shops and really good restaurants.
Hence it's really easy to get to many sights and nice places [even on foot], also to nearby cities and national parks &c. [by tram / bus].
Besides that the hotel is really nice / 'stylish' and well equipped (restaurant, gym, box spring beds).
To sum it up: I can strongly recommend this hotel!
The breakfast was very good and there was a mall across the street where my kids went and shopped several times so it gave them something to do. We were far from the city center, but we had a car, so it worked out OK there are no directions in English, we were not told where to park, and I ended up in the wrong parking lot and still I’m not sure how much I was charged for that. Overall, we did have a pleasant stay though, the hotel is clean, quiet, and we felt extremely safe.
Location here is the king. Located centrally with easy access to plenty of Cafes, Restaurants, Shopping centers and Railway station and other public transports. Taking a train to/from the central station and airport is convenient, fast and cheap. Rooms are big enough with standard amenities to make your stay comfortable. Value for money!
This is a small boutique hotel situated in the top two floors of an old office building. One could claim that this IS the center spot of Helsinki. The hotel has fun deco and the room was just big enough for two, very clean, and the bed was pretty good. Nice rooftop views. A great value if you can get a room at or below €100 a night!
The hotel is very well designed, staff was suoer friendly and the bed was very comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, plenty of food to choose from. Bonus point for being able to pick when I want to go breakfast.
The city center is not very close, but it can be reached quickly with tram 9, so transportation wasn't a problem.
The breakfast price is reasonable at the hotel. The location is good because we could easily access any important facilities from the location (Embassies, City Center, Airport..). I have stayed for a week, they did try to arrange the booking within a room so that we could have the most space as we could.
Friendly, efficient service; tasty breakfast; a confortable room, with a fair area (4 beds in our case); and a really nice location, in the city center. Arthur surpasses the expectations for a 3 star hotel, we will definitely book this hotel again if we return to Helsinki.
Very new Hotel, located at the very City Center, at the Design District. Beautiful rooms, well designed, very modern. Breakfast was very good, very rich in options, and plentiful. It has got a Sauna, which was excellent and a very well equipped Gym (open for 24 hours).
I was booking this hotel for my parents. In the past I stayed there few times and I had an amazing experience, as it's located in the city center, many restaurants and shops are nearby. Friendly staff, overall everything nice. Breakfast was also pretty nice.
Kitchen has everything you need to prepare almost any dish. Also there is a dishwasher. Shower, bed... Everything was great. Recommend
You can easily get to Helsinki City center by bus or train. Bus stop or train station is near the hotel.
The hotel is located in the city center near the Bus station, in the very nice place.
The breakfast was excellent (I stayed before in Sokos hotels, and the breakfast was one of the reason why I selected this hotel).
Good place to stay with a cheap price for Helsinki. Very good location close to the city center. The room is comfortable. Clean and modern showers. Free sauna in the morning is cool.
Comfortable bed, clean room, hotel very well connected to the city center, nice breakfast, helpfull staff, intersting evening’ events in the bar e.g., live music
