The Colca Canyon was worth the visit,not just for the condors. Plan a walk in the park. If you are interested in hot springs, go directly to the modern structure 5 kilometers from the town center. If you like to see the stars, plan a visit to the planetarium.

Chivay is small but doesn't over-promise.
Chivay is small but doesn't over-promise. It's a great start-point for tours, trips, walks and the rest. The local facilities - thermal baths, bars, restaurants etc - are pretty good and it's close enough to other places (Yanque, Corporaque et al) to walk or bus to get some variety - for example, the thermal baths at Colca Lodge were excellent (but don't believe Lonely Planet - they're not in Corporaque, it's another 5km down the road which comes as a surprise if you choose to walk). Highlight would be the planetarium which was great - very low-key but they were helpful and brought things to life, setting up their telescopes to all sorts of constellations or planets.

The roof top terrace overlooking the river was amazing and great for star gazing. The jacuzzi bath was huge with amazing views. The thermal baths were lovely and warm and a great place to relax and unwind after a day of travelling. It was so peaceful and tranquil we only wished we could have stayed longer

It's a great choice if you're exploring el Valle del Colca and also to walk around Chivay. Rooms aren't so big, but they're still comfortable. Unlike other hostels in the area, the water runs, and it's hot (which is nice!) Breakfast is served in the terrace (covered) from which you have beautiful views of the valley and the volcanoes.DavidSpain

The restaurant is very good, and the property is a wonderful place for bird-watching. 50 minute drive to Mirador Cruz de los Condores so you can grab and early breakfast and get an early start.
